The Los Angeles Lakers have fired Head Coach Mike Brown with immediate effect. Although earlier in the week he had received a vote of confidence, Thatballgame.com has learned that GM Jerry West and the Lakers hierarchy have had enough with the current state of the team.
The Lakers, whom are currently 1-4 after their latest loss on the road to Utah on Wednesday 7th November, are performing way below expectations. With the wealth of talent they added in the offseason including Dwight Howard and Steve Nash many predicted them to be major contenders this year. We even predicted that the Lakers could win it all this year in our season preview, and they still can as it is only 5 games into the season.
So far many fans and pundits have blamed Mike Brown for his implementation of a ‘Princeton’ style offense which has clearly not been working yet. Brown’s son Elijah has been receiving death threats on twitter and his family have been treated similarly when out and around L.A which is of ill taste.
We think this move could give the Lakers the kick up the backside that they need IF they can get someone hired quickly and start playing to their strengths, Howard and Gasol inside and Kobe ISOs. Coach Eddie Jordan will likely take interim charge of their game tonight v the Golden State Warriors at the Staples centre(10.30pm Eastern time).
