Under-the-radar superstar Deron Williams and his ever improving Nets have arrived. It is so disrespectful that people don’t talk about Deron when they talk about the Nets stellar year. It’s time to see if they can play with the big boys. They face the Chicago Bulls at the Barclays centre tomorrow night(8eastern,1am uk) and it will be a test for P.J Carlesimo and his troops. They finished they season 49/33 which secured them the 4th seed. This brings home court advantage and a pressure not known since the Jason Kidd days. Are the Nets ready for it?
Deron is. 2 years ago whenever you asked anyone ‘who’s the best Floor general in the NBA?’ You got two answers; Chris Paul and Deron Williams. However now there is Rondo, Rose, Paul, Westbrook, Irving, Wall, Parker, Curry, Conley and Dwill. Admittedly he hasn’t played his best ball yet for the Nets. But this season he has started to show glimpses. Remember that explosion against the Wizards where he went http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z0_9yIPjZg0!. Well that is the Deron that we want to see, and we will see in this years playoffs.
There are question marks over Derrick Rose which means the stage is set for Williams to use his size over Nate Robinson and become the matchup nightmare he can be for the opposition. I think Deron will thrive against the physical Bulls and don’t be surprised if he drops stat lines not far off 30p10a5r in this series. I think this matchup has game 7 potential. Which gives Deron the chance to be the natural leader and lead his men to the second round. Lets not forget he is one of those rare stars who can go off for 50 on any given night.
I think the All Star snub will give Williams a chip on his shoulder as it has done since the All Star break where his numbers have jumped to around 19 points and 8 assists a game for the season. He also has great help, first time All Star Brook Lopez and Joe Johnson will ensure the nets have enough to compete hard with the Bulls. Make no mistake though, this is Deron’s team and he’s about to take it to the next level. Brooklyn style, baby.
